Kate joined Hamline Midway Coalition as Executive Director in 2018. As a resident of Hamline Midway, Kate has been active in the neighborhood since she purchased a house on Tatum Street in 2007. Kate is a member of the Tatum Park Community Garden, volunteers with local animal rescue groups, and is President of the Minnesota Partnership for Animal Welfare.  She lives with her wife (Amy) and can be found walking the streets of Midway with her 3 rescue dogs regularly.


Melissa Michener, Community Organizer

Melissa was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and she says that moving to Saint Paul in 2011 was the best decision of her life because she loves winter. Melissa became involved in her surrounding community while attending Hamline University which landed her internships in the Governor and Mayor’s offices in 2015. Her professional works includes campaign management, and currently working as the community organizer for the Hamline Midway Coalition. She is a  water protector, political healer, and guardian for future generations. Guided by the resistance and work of her ancestors, Melissa continues to advocate for the communities in which she lives and works.


Emma Kiley

Emma Kiley, Neighborhood Plan Intern

Emma (she/her/hers) was born in St.Paul, MN and raised in Apple Valley, just south of the Twin Cities. She attended Hamline University and graduated in 2019 with a BA in Environmental Studies and a concentration in sustainable food systems. She now works full time as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Hamline focusing on campus food access. Emma’s passion for sustainability and food studies has led her to be especially interested in policy, systems change and community organizing. Emma is excited to be working on the 2020 Neighborhood Plan with HMC and looks forward to collaborating with community members to create a vision for the Hamline Midway!
